Technology certainly doesn’t stop. Normally, a suspicious noise coming from your vehicle means, if you have no knowledge of mechanics, a forced visit to a garage workshop.
Now, your smartphone offers you another alternative. Indeed, before going to the mechanic, it is possible, thanks to your phone and a small connector, to accurately diagnose the condition of your vehicle. Here is the procedure to follow:

The app
Your phone is smart, but it needs a good app to interpret the information from the famous case. Go for DashCommand, a free and quite comprehensive app.

Compatibility
You now need to check online that your vehicle complies with OBD systems. This standard ensures that your car can electronically monitor the engine’s condition.
The ELM327 case
This pocket case must be connected directly to the OBD 2 port of your car. The connection location of the box varies by model and can be either under the ashtray, behind the steering wheel, or above the pedal area, for example. Save time and avoid nonsense by downloading the app Where is my OBD 2 socket?.
The LEDs
Once connected, the connector will interpret the signals from your engine and transmit them to your phone. You can now turn off a warning light that comes on due to a false contact or find out where a engine failure is coming from.
Forget the appointment with the mechanic, diagnose your car’s breakdown yourself, thanks to your smartphone!

DashCommand Free
Of course, the DashCommand app won’t be very useful without an ELM327 box. If your car is compatible with the OBD 2 standard (check the manufacturer’s website), you have the option to install this device. It then interprets all the signals from your engine.
This is where the app comes into play. Connect it to the case and click on Vehicle. More…
